    Cahal Pech

    Welcome to San Ignacio,where the amazing site of  Cahal Pech  can be found. Meaning “Place of Ticks” in Yucatec Maya Language.It is located on a beautiful  hill top over-looking the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. First settled between 1200-1000 BC and abandoned around 800-900AD.

      The site consists of 34 structures compacted in a small area, slightly more than 2 acres. The tallest temple on site is Structure A1 which stands 77 ft high. It also contains two ball courts, eight plain and one carved stela, and one altar.

     Tour can be combine with a tour of  Xunantunich just 20 minute drive west, towards the beautiful and peaceful village of San Jose Succotz. Getting to the site we need to board a hand crank ferry, which would get us across the Crystal Green Waters of the Mopan River, from there it just a mile up to Xunantunich Sacred structures.

    El Castillo

    Tour departs San Ignacio at 8:30am, to Cahal Pech Maya site. Tour of site is approximately 2 hrs after tour, we dive for 20 minute to the second largest Maya site in western Belize known as Xunantunich. This site provides you with an amazing view of the Belize River Valley. Tour on site, is 2 hrs, it includes home made pack lunch and drinks. We are back in San Ignacio at 3pm.

    Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

    What to wear: Comfortable clothing for hiking around site. Proper foot wear is recommended.

    What to bring: Bug repellent, sunscreen, cameras and/or hats/sunglasses.
