Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve: Rio Frio Cave – Located in Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Rio Frio Cave is one cave attraction in Belize you don’t want to miss. Rio Frio’s most unique is its massive entrance. It is actually a tunnel, consisting of massive 70foot arches at ends. When a person stands in front of the cave, they are amazed of the expansiveness opening that beckons them forward. Various colored boulders and impressive chandelier like stalactites can also be seen hanging from its ceiling above. A shallow river runs through this cave, creating sandy beaches along both ends where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing swim.
This is by far the only cave in Belize that can be navigated without the use of headlamps. During day-light tours, sunlight pouring through the cave from end to end will light your path. Trips to Rio Frio Cave are offered along with a tour of Caracol Mayan Ruins.
